Wizz Air delay compensation: your rights and how to claim
Wizz Air flies a lot of routes from Luton, Gatwick and other UK airports to Central and Eastern Europe. If your Wizz Air flight landed more than three hours late or was cancelled at short notice, UK261 or EU261 may give each passenger a fixed sum – here's how much and how to get it.
- Flights from the UK on Wizz Air: UK261, up to £520 per person.
- Flights from the EU: EU261, up to €600 per person.
- Typical Luton–Eastern Europe routes: £220 or £350.
- Wizz Air is signed up to AviationADR if your claim is rejected.

Which Wizz Air flights are covered?
Any Wizz Air flight departing a UK airport is covered by UK261, and any departing an EU airport by EU261, whichever Wizz Air company operated it. Flights from outside Europe into the UK or EU can be covered too when the operating Wizz Air company is a UK or EU airline – check your booking for the operating carrier.
How much compensation from Wizz Air?
Some example distances from London Luton:
- London Luton – Katowice (about 1,360 km): £220
- London Luton – Vilnius (about 1,720 km): £350
- London Luton – Bucharest (about 2,110 km): £350
Amounts are per passenger and don't depend on the ticket price. Distances are great-circle distances, as the CAA recommends.
If Wizz Air cancels your flight
You can choose a refund in money or a replacement flight. Wizz Air may offer the refund as account credit; you don't have to accept credit instead of money. If you were told less than 14 days before departure, compensation may be due too, depending on the replacement flight's times.

How to claim from Wizz Air
Wizz Air takes compensation claims through its Help Centre online. Have your confirmation code, flight details and every passenger's name ready, and claim expenses separately with receipts.
If Wizz Air rejects your claim or hasn't given a final answer after eight weeks, you can take it to AviationADR, the alternative dispute resolution scheme Wizz Air is signed up to (according to the CAA's list, checked 2 November 2026). ADR is free for passengers.
Or hand it to us: we check the flight for free and deal with Wizz Air for you. You only pay if we win.
Want to claim from Wizz Air yourself? Start at Wizz Air's delay, cancellation and refund help page. Travel On Board is an independent claims service and is not connected to Wizz Air.
